Astroloji Neden Bize Bu Kadar Doğru Geliyor?
Astrology presents an unusual scientific puzzle because its empirical claims and its psychological appeal point in different directions. Controlled studies have not established a reliable relationship between zodiac signs and personality. A large study involving more than 15,000 participants found no meaningful association between date of birth, popular sun signs, personality, or general intelligence. Yet many people experience horoscope descriptions as strikingly accurate. Psychology offers several mechanisms that help explain this gap. The Barnum effect shows how people can perceive broad, flexible personality statements as uniquely applicable to themselves. Experiments also suggest that attaching an astrological frame to a description can influence how accurate it feels. Under uncertainty or diminished personal control, people become more likely to perceive meaningful patterns in unrelated events, which helps explain why systems promising order and prediction can become attractive without requiring their underlying causal claims to be true. Education and intelligence do not provide complete immunity. Research on superstition shows that people can recognize that an intuition is irrational while still allowing it to influence their feelings or behaviour. Astrology may also affect self-concept through self-attribution: people familiar with the stereotypical traits of their zodiac sign can begin describing themselves in ways that resemble those traits. This creates an important distinction. Astrology does not need to predict personality accurately in order to influence people psychologically or socially. Its perceived accuracy can arise from ordinary cognitive processes, cultural transmission, selective memory and the human preference for meaningful structure under uncertainty.
